Spain U19 2–0 Germany U19: La Roja seal record-extending European crown
Spain defeat Germany to win record-extending tenth Under-19 European title
Spain completed a flawless UEFA European Under-19 Championship campaign by defeating Germany 2-0 in the final at The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.
Germany made the brighter start and twice threatened through Otto Stange, but goalkeeper Manu González denied the striker on both occasions. Spain gradually imposed greater control, with Hugo López striking the crossbar with an audacious effort in the 39th minute.
López made the breakthrough five minutes later. Daniel Yáñez’s deflected shot came back off the post, allowing the alert Villarreal forward to convert from close range in the 44th minute.
Spain doubled their advantage shortly after half-time when centre-back Mario Rivas rose at the near post to head home from a corner in the 48th minute.
Germany pushed forward in search of a response, but González produced another important stop to deny Moritz Reimers before later efforts from Montrell Culbreath and Jykese Fields failed to reduce the deficit.
The victory secured Spain’s record-extending tenth Under-19 European Championship title. Paco Gallardo’s side won all five matches in Wales, scoring 19 goals without conceding — becoming the first team to win the competition with a perfect defensive record.
