Cambodia make history with victory over Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong football representative team suffered a disappointing 2–0 defeat against Cambodia in an international friendly at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.
The hosts created the better opportunities during the opening half and nearly took an early lead when Sieng Chanthea released Lim Pisoth, whose powerful effort struck the post.
Cambodia eventually broke the deadlock in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Hong Kong cleared Sor Rotana’s cross only as far as Yudai Ogawa, who struck an excellent half-volley from outside the penalty area beyond Pong Cheuk Hei.
The hosts doubled their advantage five minutes after the restart. Abdel Kader Coulibaly advanced down the right before delivering a low cross for Sieng Chanthea to finish into the bottom corner.
Hong Kong attempted to respond but struggled to create clear opportunities against a disciplined Cambodian defence. Pong prevented further damage with an important save from Rado Mon during the closing stages.
The result gave Cambodia their first-ever victory over Hong Kong, ending an 11-match winless run in the fixture dating back to 1957.
