Ronaldo double inspires Portugal rout

Portugal produced a dominant display to defeat Uzbekistan 5–0 at Houston Stadium in Group K.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the seventh minute, converting João Cancelo’s cross from close range. Nuno Mendes doubled the advantage with a superb free-kick before Ronaldo added his second shortly before half-time.

Uzbekistan briefly found the net, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review for a foul in the build-up.

An own goal from Abdukodir Khusanov extended Portugal’s lead in the 60th minute, before substitute Rafael Leão completed the rout with a late finish.
